Flagship schools

There are 180 Flagship schools and communities across England. These schools are there to act as hubs of their community and to support other schools on their journey to transform food culture.

How they can help you

Flagship schools will have a wealth of advice and knowledge that can help you – especially if there is a particular area where you are struggling. We know that all schools are different but often another school's experience may help you to see things in a new way.

Flagship schools often host events to showcase their achievements and these may even include training run by a food for Life Partnership staff member. Events are focussed on building confidence and ultimately helping schools to achieve the Bronze, Silver and Gold awards.

In addition you can contact Flagship schools directly. Areas in which they might be able to offer advice include:

  • consulting on food in school and the development of a whole school food policy
  • sourcing sustainable and animal welfare friendly products
  • improving the school dining room experience
  • developing links with a local farm
  • setting up or developing an organic vegetable garden
  • developing the schools capacity to teach cooking skills
