Tick off Bronze for... Involving midday supervisors

22 March 2011 – Are the lunchtime supervisors integral to your school’s dining experience? Do the pupils and school staff interact with the catering team? Involving midday supervisors and catering staff can make lunchtimes more enjoyable, and have a positive impact on school life.

Criteria

• Our lunchtime supervisors promote a calm and positive dining experience and help our pupils with food choices.
• A member of our catering staff has been encouraged to get involved in food education activities.

Case studies

The Midday Supervisory Assistants at Cowes Primary School on the Isle of Wight are responsible for allocating points to the table of best behaved pupils. Since the assistants started interacting with the pupils more, noise at lunchtimes has dramatically reduced and the dining experience is much calmer. Read the case study.

Whites Wood Lane Community School in Gainsborough has introduced a raffle system, led by the midday supervisors.
