Tick off Bronze, Silver and Gold... Harvesting vegetables from the local farm for Roast Dinner Day

14 June 2011 – Have you booked in a farm visit for the autumn term? By arranging a visit to a local farm before Roast Dinner Day on 12 October 2011 your pupils could harvest vegetables for the roast dinner lunch, and the farm might even be able to supply the meat.

 Criteria
• Bronze: We organise an annual farm visit, and this is linked to wider learning
• Silver: One or more year groups keep in touch with a local farm throughout the year
• Gold: Our pupils have the opportunity to take part in a programme of farm-based activities throughout the farming year

Case study

Eastwood Comprehensive School in Nottinghamshire has strong links with local farm Redgates. The farm not only hosts educational visits, it supplies the school with eggs, pork, chicken, lamb and beef, and helps deliver school community events such as hog roasts and BBQs. Read the case study.
