Tick off Bronze for... Involving the school cook in Food for Life Partnership activities

6 December 2011 – Are your cooks taking an active part in school life? The catering staff are an integral part of the Food for Life Partnership programme, and are often best placed to talk to the children about healthy eating, where their food comes from, and share their enthusiasm for the veg brought in from the school garden.

Resources

The Food for Life Partnership Cooks Network is a network of 18 school cooks across the country, who are on to hand to offer advice and support to catering staff in Food for Life Partnership schools.

This lunchtime supervisor training package offers step-by step training on the Food for Life Partnership for catering staff and can be used in both secondaries and primaries.

Case study

Kichen Manager Anne Hext-Williams is at the heart of the Food for Life Partnership programme at Lady Modifords Primary School in Devon. A whirlwind of energy and enthusiasm, she teaches cooking to the whole school, raises funds, goes into lessons, puts on cooking demonstrations and organises café days for the local community and parents.
