General Election 2017: Our Priorities

General election

Following the news that a general election will be held on Thursday 8 June, together with the wider Soil Association, we’re calling on all political parties to give public health higher priority than ever before.

We’re proposing three policies that we’d like to see in all manifestos. These are:

  1. Investing in child health – commit to creating an environment where it is normal, easy and enjoyable for children and young people to eat well.

  2. Better public procurement – to widen public access to healthier, higher welfare, local and organic food and to build stable markets for farmers and growers.

  3. Every hospital becomes a ‘beacon of good food’ – contributing towards the ‘radical upgrade in prevention and public health’ called for in the NHS Five Year Forward View.

You can find out more about our three public health priorities here, or read all eight Soil Association food and farming manifesto priorities here.

We need your help!

With polling day fast approaching, political parties will be hurriedly finalising their manifestos.

This means that now is the perfect time to email your MP to tell them what priorities matter to you! You can email your MP easily from here.

If you agree with our three suggestions, please share them with your MP. And if you have your own ideas for health and food priorities, please tell your MP what they are.

We’d also love to hear about them – so please do drop us a quick email.
