In Year 1 this half term the children are learning about different plants growing in their local environment and naming these. They have planted broad bean seeds each and over the next four weeks the children will be caring for these and completing a bean observation diary, observing and communicating the growth that happens using drawings and words. We have already taught the children that plants provide food for humans and the children had to consider what part of the plant they eat, e,g, carrots (root), lettuce (leaf) etc. Alongside this the children have gone to the poly tunnel in groups with our classroom assistants to plant carrots, lettuce, spinach, radishes and some herbs (sage and basil). Two different children each day are involved in watering the plants under the supervision of our classroom assistants. Finally the children will be investigating the different conditions plants require to grow healthily.
Each class has starting preparing their individual beds in the polytunnel in preperation for planting the seeds.
We have booked a very exciting trip for EYFS pupils to attend Toby Carvery 'Chef School' Event in May.
To celebrate we have a £1 taster day on our school lunches - the menu is meatballs and has proved popular with 54 orders.
The children are all excited this morning to be cooking energy bars - slightly un healthy but ok for a treat!
