Cool Food Pro is a project stretching across the UK and France supporting caterers to cut their carbon footprint by making changes to their menus and purchasing.
The Soil Association is thrilled to be an active partner of this Interreg funded project led by the Université de Bretagne Occidentale (UBO) and supported by PECT, and French partner Maison de la Bio.
The project aims to increase sustainability, food security and public well-being through public and private sector catering across the France (Channel Manche) England Programme area.
With food production accounting for a quarter of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions, Cool Food Pro helps caterers calculate their carbon footprint for free using a specially designed web app and supports them to make simple, step-by-step positive changes to reduce their carbon impact.
As a result, the project seeks to promote long lasting change through the purchase of organic, local and seasonal produce, the reduction of food waste and packaging and the introduction of plant-based meals, supporting the Soil Association’s focus on the climate impact of food.
Cool Food Pro supports caterers to move to more sustainable working practices by:
- Buying local, seasonal and organic ingredients
- Using less, but better quality meat and fish
- Reducing the amount of food and packaging waste
