At Food for Life, we believe that every child has the right to enjoy healthy, tasty and sustainable food, to learn about where the ingredients come from, how they are grown and cooked, and to understand the importance of well-sourced produce.

Our Early Years Award provides an independent endorsement for nurseries and children’s centres that serve good quality, nutritious food and support the babies and children in their care to develop good eating habits for life.

Our School Award supports schools to take a whole school approach that sees them grow their own food; organise trips to farms; source food from local producers; set up school farmers’ markets; hold community food events; provide cooking and growing clubs for pupils and their families; serve freshly prepared, well-sourced meals and provide an attractive dining environment so lunchtimes are a positive feature of the school day.

Our Served Here Award recognises caterers who are dedicated to serving food that is freshly prepared from predominantly unprocessed ingredients. They are also free from controversial additives and artificial trans fats, champion local food producers and source environmentally sustainable food. If a school or nursery achieves a Food for Life Early Years or Schools Award, they will either have a Food for Life Served Here accredited caterer or have met the same standards through the food quality section of their award. Some schools or nurseries might have both awards!
