Alfreton Park Community Special School

School Award Status: Bronze

Bronze schools serve fresh, seasonal school meals prepared by a well-trained school cook. Pupils and parents are involved in planning improvements to school menus and the dining experience via a school nutrition action group, boosting school meal take-up. Every pupil has the opportunity to visit a farm during his or her time at school, and opportunities are given for cooking and food growing activity.

Served Here Status: Silver

This school serves a menu that has been awarded a Silver Food for Life Served Here award.

A Silver award means that the menu served meets all of our Bronze criteria plus the school has taken steps to focus more on ethical, environmentally friendly and local ingredients, and make healthy eating easier. 5% of the spend for the menu goes towards serving organic produce and points have been earned for spending on produce certified as sustainable and ethical. The school and its caterer have also worked together to take recognised actions to make healthy eating the easy option for pupils at meal times.
