Elton CofE Primary School

School Award Status: Silver

Silver schools serve school meals on plates, not flight trays, and a range of locally sourced and organic items are served. All chicken, bacon and sausages served are Freedom Food certified or free range and no fish from unsustainable sources is served. The school has a cooking club, and pupils get to cook with and eat the produce grown in the school growing area. Parents and the wider community get involved in food education via food-themed events.

Served Here Status: Silver

This school serves a menu that has been awarded a Silver Food for Life Served Here award.

A Silver award means that the menu served meets all of our Bronze criteria plus the school has taken steps to focus more on ethical, environmentally friendly and local ingredients, and make healthy eating easier. 5% of the spend for the menu goes towards serving organic produce and points have been earned for spending on produce certified as sustainable and ethical. The school and its caterer have also worked together to take recognised actions to make healthy eating the easy option for pupils at meal times.
