Transforming Local Food Systems: What's new with Food for Life

Most recently, we’ve worked with Walsall Council to launch the Food for Life Nourishing Communities Award. We’ve been working with Walsall Council’s Public Health team since 2017 to make good food the norm: improving school food quality, food leadership and food education. Since then, over 18,000 children in Walsall have benefitted from Food for Life activity in their school. This new award will take this work beyond the school gates and into the community, celebrating those who are already making good food accessible in Walsall.

We’ll use our insights from this work to show how partnering with us drives real change in procurement, food environments and local leadership.

We’ll also overview our system-wide approach to co-design and collaboration with local authority partners and make clear how our bespoke partnerships are designed to impact three main outcome areas in local food systems:

  • Resilient supply chains - facilitating routes to market and raising the standard of food provision through schemes like Food for Life Served Here, Cool Food Pro and the Food for Life Supplier Scheme
  • Transformed food environments – through our awards-based action frameworks for schools and early years settings, and campaigns such as Out to Lunch
  • Empowered changemakers – supporting food citizenship and leadership locally, through our work with schools, early years settings, food providers and local food activists.

This webinar is designed for Local Authority public health and food strategy officers and will also be relevant to Local Food Partnership facilitators/working group leads.
