Back in June, Abbey Primary School in Walsall invited families to join in on their planting day. This Food for Life Plant and Share activity was organised to celebrate Father’s Day and give pupils the opportunity to plant their own food and see it grow through the year.
In total, 45 family members attended to plant potatoes, strawberries and herbs, as well as flowers to attract those all-important pollinators. It was lovely to see parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles sharing their gardening wisdom and have the chance to meet the different families.
This term, the children have reaping the rewards of their planting. Pupils have been busy harvesting their crops and plan to use the produce in a variety of dishes, which they will cook in school.
